TODAY’S PREDICTION: I thought I’d give us all some incentive for the NFL games today. I’ll calculate the numbers of who answered the most correctly and share them on Monday.

I am using the spread from ESPN. If you are unfamiliar with how betting spreads work, I put an explanation below.

The spread keeps games exciting because it’s not just about who wins; it’s about how much they win or lose by!

Game 1: Bears at Lions

Spread DET -9.5

Game 2: Giants at Cowboys

Spread: DAL -3.5

Game 3: Dolphins at Packers

Spread: GB -3.5

My picks:

  • Bears cover the spread. Jared Goff has been so good at home, but I just can’t wrap my head around picking the Lions on Thanksgiving…it just seems wrong. The Lions probably still win, but it could be close.

  • Cowboys cover the spread. The Giants are bad (#analysis). I think Drew Lock doesn’t really do much more than Daniel Jones or Tommy DeVito.

  • Dolphins cover the spread. As a Vikings fan, I can’t root for the Packers. Can’t do it. Fins will win.

A spread in sports betting is a way to even the playing field between a favorite and an underdog by giving or taking points.

Here’s how it works, using today as an example:

DET -9.5 points:

Detroit (DET) is the favorite.

This means Detroit needs to win by more than 9.5 points (so 10 or more points) for a bet on them to win (or that they cover the spread)

If they win by 10 or more, that means Detroit (DET) covered the spread

If they win by 9 or less, or lose, that means Detroit (DET) did not cover the spread.

So the question is, do you think the Lions will win by 10 points or more, or do you think the Bears will either win or lose by less than 10 points?
