Last year, MLB modified the game in an attempt to decrease the total average time and increase plays like steals and hits. The key changes were adding the pitch clock, banning types of shifts, and reducing the amount of mound visits per game. Those changes did “work” by reducing the average nine-inning game by roughly 24 minutes to 2 hours and 39 minutes.
This year does not include as many drastic changes but more tweaks to the 2023 changes.
